On this day in 1975, pioneering chemist Alexander "Sasha" Shulgin, Ph.D., discovered the psychoactive effects of 2C-B, a psychedelic phenethylamine with a chemical structure similar to mescaline. After experimenting with 2C-B, Shulgin advocated for incorporating the substance as an adjunct to therapy and later described 2C-B as one of the most introspective compounds that he had ever invented.
Learn more about 2C-B and phenethylamines in the foundational book PiHKAL: A Chemical Love Story by Sasha Shulgin and Ann Shulgin. PiHKAL, which stands for Phenethylamines I Have Known and Loved, is currently out of stock in the MAPS Store, but you can find it at the Shulgins' publisher Transform Press and MAPS' co-publisher @sSynergetic Press! https://transformpress.com/pihkal-a-chemical-love-story/
