Too many students are joining Computer Science field. Is it likely that we will soon see way more CS graduates than the number actually required?
This is a cycle that happens roughly every 15-20 years, usually because people become convinced that a CS degree (or, nowadays, bootcamps and YouTube videos) are the easy road to riches.
The problem is that the need for software engineers keeps ratcheting upwards, and the number of actual qualified developers is insufficient to meet that need. Ask anyone who works in the field, and they’ll tell you how many bad developers there are out there.I published an article on this 25 years ago:
